International Film Festival 2018

The 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) started on Tuesday, 20th November 2018 in Panaji, Goa and continued till Wednesday, 28th November 2018.

The opening ceremony of the film festival saw awesome performances from the mainstream Bollywood actors like Sonu Sood, Shilpa Rao and others. Various Bollywood actors and celebrities including Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar were also present on the occasion.

The festival showcased 212 films from 68 countries. The Indian panorama showed 26 feature films and 21 non-feature films. Israel was the ‘Country of Focus’ and Jharkhand was ‘State of Focus’ for this year’s film festival. There were 10 Israeli films which were screened in the festival. In the state focus section there was screening of the movies which exhibited the culture and traditions of Jharkhand.

The lifetime achievement award for 2018 was given to Veteran Israeli film maker Dan Wolman.

This year there was a special screening with the audio description for the children who were visually challenged. The festival also screened biopic based of Indian and international sports personalities as an extension of the ‘Khelo India’ Branding.

The IFFI also paid homage to Shashi Kapoor, Sridevi, Kalpana Lajmi and other film personalities who passed away in the recent times. IFFI also showcased some of the best films of Vinod Khanna who received the Dada Saheb Phalke award, posthumously.

IFFI 2018 Winners

Following are the winners of the International Film Festival of India 2018:

  • Best Film

The Ukranian film named ‘Donbass’ won the coveted Golden Peacock award for best film. The film was directed by Sergei Loznitsa and was about a war taken place in Eastern Urkraine. The film showcases various events and unfolds many adventures in the war.

  • Best Director

Lijo Jose Pellissery was chosen as the ‘Best Director’ and was awarded the Silver Peacock for the movie ‘Ee.Ma.Yau.’  The film which was set in Kerala shows the satire on death and its effects on human lives.

  • Best Actor (Male)

Chemban Vinod was awarded with the Silver Peacock for the ‘Best Actor Male’ category for the movie ‘Ee.Ma.Yau.’

  • Best Actor (Female)

The ‘Best Actor Female’ was won by Anastassia Pustovit and was awarded with the Silver Peacock trophy. She was awarded for her role in the Ukranian movie ‘When the Trees Fall’

  • Special Jury Award

‘Special Jury Award’ was given to Milko Lazarov for his film ‘Aga’. The film describes the challenges faced by an elderly couple in a frigid landscape

 

  • Best Debut Feature Film of a Director

‘The Best Debut Feature Film of a Director’ was won by Alberto Monteras II for his Philipino movie ‘Respecto’.

ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal

The movie ‘Walking with the Wind ‘was given the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal for showcasing peace in people’s mind and the importance of human rights.

  • IFFI 2018 Special Award

Salim Khan who is the famous scriptwriter and dialog writer of Hindi cinema was given the ‘IIFI 2018 Special Award’ for his lifetime contribution to the Indian cinema.

International Film Festival of India 2018 Theme

The theme for 2018 International Film Festival was set as ‘Spread the Joy of Cinema’.  It mainly focused to make cinema reach every corners of the world and contribute to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations.

International Film Festival of India

The International Film Festival of India, first started in the year 1952, is considered as the most significant film festivals all over the Asia. It is celebrated annually from 20th November to 30th November at beach in the Goa which intends to display the excellence of the film art through the common platform. It involves contributing the understanding of the culture of the film industry of different nations in order to promote the friendship and collaboration among the people worldwide.

 

The celebration of the international film festival is organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Government of Goa. The 42nd edition of it was celebrated in Margao, Goa which was launched by Shahrukh Khan, 43rd edition in Panaji, Goa (20th November to 30th November in 2012) which was inaugurated by Akshay Kumar.

The 1st edition of the film festival was held in Mumbai form 24th of January to 1st of February in the year 1952 which was organized by the Films Division, Government of India with support of the first Prime Minister of India. In the same year in Delhi it was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on 21st of February.

The further editions of it have been celebrated in the subsequent years in New Delhi which was then moved to the Trivandrum. It was moved to Goa from Trivandrum in the year 2004. The image of the Goa was enhanced as a world class film destination after the celebration of the 41st film festival.

The film festival of the 2010 has paid honor to all iconic filmmaker to put forth the great movies to the society. It had paid the honored compliments to the eleven Indian artists and film makers (Pamela Rooks, Debu Deodhar, Ravi Baswani, Sujit Kumkar, Bina Rai, K.Ashwath, Vishnuvardhan, Tahir Hussain, Abrar Alvi, Nirmal Pandey, Keshu Ramsay) who are no more. Life Time Achievement Award and Centenary Award is also distributed to the best actors of the film

44th edition of International Film Festival of India was celebrated in the month of November in 2013 from 20th to 30th November in the Goa, India. From the year of starting of film festival celebration in India, it has celebrated 48 film festivals. The entries for the 44th edition of International Film Festival of India was opened in July-August with the entry fee of Rs 1500.
